It is one of Japan’s most prestigious shrines which enshrines one of the three sacred treasures of Japan “Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi” next to Ise Jingu. It is believed to have been founded about 1,900 years ago, and is affectionately known as “Atsuta-san” by locals. This is Nagoya’s iconic spot attracting about 7 million visitors annually.
It is surrounded by rich greenery called “Atsuta-no-Mori,” offering a serene and relaxing atmosphere. There are 45 other buildings including Hakkengu and Mita Shrine, as well as the main shrine. Worshippers visit these different shrines within the grounds and pursue different types of blessings.
Plus, the precinct has “Bunkaden Treasure House” and “Kusanagi Museum,” so you can watch and learn about historical swords and cultural assets related to “Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi.” These are must-visit spots for those interested in the history and culture.
